Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Language and Literature is responsible for teaching GEC courses in English, Foreign Languages, Humanities, and Philosophy. The department also houses degree programs in English, Foreign Languages and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose is to teach Creative Writing courses as an Endowed Chair. The faculty member is also expected to maintain an active publication agenda, develop new Creative Writing courses, serve as faculty advisor for the Ex Umbra student literary magazine, sponsor the Eagle Writers Club, and organize guest speakers to come to campus
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to teach a wide variety of Creative Writing courses, including multi-genre Introduction to Creative Writing, Fiction, Nonfiction. Ability to teach Drama Writing and/or Poetry a plus.

Ability to mentor students and delegate responsibilities for the student literary magazine Ex Umbra.

Ability to work with budgets and offices on campus to organize speakers, fund publications, and secure external grants.
Minimum Education/Experience
Ph.D. or MFA in Creative Writing, English or a related discipline with teaching experience in Creative Writing. Specific genre of specialization is not required, although Fiction and Creative Nonfiction are preferred. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. and/or MFA in Creative Writing, and have a demonstrated record of scholarly and creative publications.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Teach 2 Creative Writing courses per semester. An average of 10 hours/week of office hours is also expected.
Function Public Service
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Serve as faculty adviser for Ex Umbra, the student-run literary magazine; Develop new courses in Creative Writing; serve on departmental and university committees as assigned by the chair; Organize guest speakers to come to campus.
Function Research
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Maintain an active agenda of scholarly and/or creative work for publication.
